Thai peasants’ movement stands firm in the face of threats, seeks land reform

Peoples Dispatch speaks to the Southern Peasant’s Federation of Thailand’s Theeranate Chaisuwan at the Khlong Sai Pattana community in the south of the country on the struggles of this landless workers’ movement, their demands and their view on the political situation.

SPFT was officially established in 2008  when farmers began occupying the land held illegally by a palm oil company with the aid of the mafia. Over the years, despite assassinations of their activists, threats and intimidation, the peasants have continued their struggle seeking the just distribution of land.
