On January 17, 1945, the Soviet Army liberated the Warsaw, capital of Poland from Nazi forces. The operation was part of the  Vistula–Oder Offensive, which was a successful Red Army operation on the Eastern Front in the European Theatre of World War II in January 1945. It also saw the liberation of Kraków, and Poznań.
