Cuba’s doctors to the rescue

The efforts by Cuba’s Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade have been the most significant example of medical internationalism during the COVID-19 pandemic. The brigade was set up in 2005 by Fidel Castro.

Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, Cuba’s doctors have been deployed in 35 countries and have attended to close to 300,000 patients. This example of medical internationalism is part of a long and inspiring tradition that stretches to the 60s.
