In this episode of Around the World in 8 minutes, we follow the latest updates in the struggle for justice for Honduran Indigenous and environmental leader Berta Cáceres. In April the trial of the former military intelligence officer and president of the DESA company, David Castillo began. The prosecution has presented overwhelming evidence pointing to the active participation of Castillo in the assassination of Cáceres as well as in the planning of the crime. As the trial comes to a close, the organization she founded and was the coordinator of, the Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH) along with Cáceres’ family have called on Honduran courts to convict Castillo, and bring others involved in the assassination to justice.
