In Italy, the battle against COVID-19 is a social struggle

Italy is currently suffering the second highest amount of cases in the COVID-19 pandemic with 27,980 recorded cases and 2,158 deaths (as of March 17). Daily life there has come to a complete standstill.

Giuliano Granato of the National Coordination of the Italian leftist party Potere al Popolo talks to Peoples Dispatch about the situation in Italy following the mass shutdown. He also reflects on the impact of austerity policies on the healthcare system over the past decades and the difficulties faced by workers during the pandemic.
