Thousands have taken to the streets of Peru to protest Martin Vizcarra’s impeachment which many see as an attack on democracy. Manuel Merino, the president of Peruvian congress, has been sworn in as interim president, even though his mandate has been called illegitimate. The next elections in Peru are supposed to be held in April 2021. But the people are worried that the new president will take advantage of the pandemic to delay the elections.
