The plant is owned by the ArcelorMittal group which is threatening to shut it down unless it is allowed to layoff workers. The workers had two main demands: first, to stop the company’s plan to layoff thousands of workers, and second, to clean up the massive amounts of toxic wastes generated by the steel plant.
