People’s media organizations mourn the passing of Ghanaian journalist David Pongo

David Pongo was a television journalist with Pan African TV in Ghana

Media organizations mourn the loss of David Pongo (Yaw Great-Star) a television journalist and host at Pan African Television. David passed in the Tema General Hospital on December 4, 2018 after suffering from an acute illness, he was 29.

David was revered by his colleagues at Pan African TV as a “self-motivated, ambitious and objective” host and journalist. He was the host and creator of a weekly program “Around Town” which discussed challenges of sanitation in Ghana and enjoyed massive viewership.

“An embodiment of intelligence, versatility and reliability” is how one of his colleagues described him. David studied at the Kpando Senior High School in the Volta Region of Ghana. He proceeded to the Creative Land School of Film and Media Arts, Accra in pursuit of higher education.

He joined Pan African Television in 2016 as an intern and since than gave unwavering dedication to duty, strict adherence to procedures and selfless commitment. David Yaw Great Star’s lifelong ambition was to sanitize Accra and its environment to make it more habitable.

On Tuesday December 11, the management of Pan African Television held a tribute in his honor.
