On October 9, 1967, Argentinian born Cuban revolutionary, Ernesto Guevara de la Serna, famously known as Comandante Che Guevara was assassinated by Bolivian forces with the support from United State’s Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Che was part of Fidel Castro’s 26th July Movement that overthrow the US-backed brutal dictatorship regime of Fulgencio Batista in Cuba. At the First Latin American Congress in 1960, Che noted “If I were asked whether our revolution is Communist, I would define it as Marxist. Our revolution has discovered by its methods the paths that Marx pointed out.”
In 1965, Che left all his government positions in Cuba and went to support revolutionary causes and movements in various countries like Congo and Bolivia. On October 08, 1967, he was wounded and captured by Bolivian armed forces after a gun battle. He was executed the next day.
Che and his revolutionary legacy continue to inspire the global struggles against capitalist exploitation and imperialist forces.
