On February 05, 1982, negotiations between union members and company management began at the Plessey Capacitors plant at Bathgate, Scotland. Plessey Capacitors had been under occupation by the workforce led by women, who were protesting against the closure of the plant. The workers accused the company management of deliberately engineering the apparent lack of profitability of the plant to justify closure, despite the annual sales figures showing increased profits. The workers at the Bathgate plant received immense solidarity from workers in other Plessey plants in the United Kingdom and also from the local community. Despite the arm-twisting tactics by company management, the workers continued the occupation till a favorable outcome was achieved.
