Author Ahdaf Souief released after arrest for demanding better conditions inside Egyptian prisons

Ahdaf’s sister Laila Souief, activist Mona Seif and political science teacher Rabab El-Mahdi were the three others arrested for participating in the protest, demanding prison authorities in Egypt take serious steps to prevent the possible spread of Coronavirus and protect jail inmates.

Prominent author Ahdaf Souief and three other women activists were arrested by Egyptian authorities on March 18, Wednesday, from a protest site in capital Cairo. Ahdaf’s sister Laila Souief, activist Mona Seif and political science teacher Rabab El-Mahdi were the three others arrested for participating in the protest, demanding prison authorities in Egypt take serious steps to prevent the possible spread of Coronavirus and protect jail inmates.

The activists were subsequently released.
