Xiomara Castro of the left-wing Liberty and Refoundation (Libre) Party is currently leading in the Honduran elections held on 28 November. Her victory would also mark the return of a leftist leader as president for the first time since her husband Manuel Zelaya was ousted in a US-backed coup in 2009. Castro has announced that she is going to form a government of reconciliation, peace and justice.
