Remembering Amílcar Cabral & the PAIGC’s struggle for national liberation

Leading the struggle against Portuguese colonialism, Cabral believed that we must ‘Always bear in mind that the people are not fighting for ideas, for the things in anyone’s head. They are fighting to win material benefits, to live better and in peace, to see their lives go forward, to guarantee the future of their children…’ Until now he remains one of the most influential leaders, particularly for young people struggling against imperialism today. Just over a year ago at the Dilemmas of Humanity Pan African Dialogues to Build Socialism Conference in Bela Bela, South Africa, we sat down with Nharebat Nancaia Inchasso, a Politburo member of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde, the PAIGC. Here is her story and reflections which we share on the centenary of Cabral’s birth.
