Block ALECA: Tunisian workers march against the free trade agreement on May Day

The workers also protested against the death of 15 women farm workers in an accident in the city of Sidi Bouzid condemning the government’s failure to regulate the work and transport conditions of the agricultural laborers.

On International Workers’ Day (May Day), hundreds of trade unionists and workers organized a demonstration in Tunis, the capital city of Tunisia. Demanding an end to the neoliberal policies of the government, they protested against the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement, also known as ALECA, between Tunisia and European Union. The workers also protested against the death of 15 women farm workers in an accident in the city of Sidi Bouzid.
