Spanish Nissan workers resist company’s plans to shut down Barcelona plants

Nissan workers in Spain have been regularly staging demonstrations since May 4 against the company’s plans to close its plants in Barcelona. These closures will affect around 3,000 direct jobs and 25,000 indirect jobs dependent on Nissan’s operations. This is part of Nissan’s global plan of reducing its workforce by around 20,000 people – 15% of the total.
