The military conflict between Ethiopia’s federal government and the Tigray regional government, which began on November 4, has already claimed thousands of lives. International agencies have raised concerns over shortages of food and medicine.

The military escalation began on Wednesday when PM Abiy Ahmed ordered soldiers into the region. Tigray is ruled by the Tigray People’s Liberation Front which has been in conflict with Ahmed’s government since the latter came to power in 2018
