Victor Jara, a theatre activist, singer and an active member of the Chilean Communist Party was tortured and killed immediately after the coup d’etat in September 1973. He symbolized the idea that art and progressive politics should converge to strengthen people’s resistance. To this day, Jara’s resistance remains an inspiration for peoples’ movements across the world.
