Since December 4, teachers in Delhi University in the capital city of India have been on an indefinite strike, demanding the protection of their livelihoods. Around half of the teachers are working on a temporary basis, receiving basic salaries, without any benefits or promotions. Some have been working this way for over two decades. Now the university administration wants to demote their status further to guest lecturers, in which they will be paid on a per lecture basis.
