There are over 1 million confirmed cases of coronavirus in Brazil and over 50,000 deaths. Despite these concerning numbers, Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro continues to reject measures implemented globally to slow the spread of the virus and contain the number of deaths. The far-right president has also made public declarations which ignore and minimize the gravity of the pandemic.
We spoke to Jessy Dayane a militant of Levante Popular da Juventude, ex-vice president of the National Union of Students and part of the People’s Brazil Front in order to understand the situation on the ground.
