An estimated 750,000 people across Brazil took to the streets against president Jair Bolsonaro’s mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic on June 19. The protests displayed their dissatisfaction due to the lack of vaccines to combat COVID-19, hunger, unemployment, attacks on Indigenous and Black people, and the environment.
Hundreds of thousands hit the streets against Bolsonaro in Brazil
The triggering point for the protest was 500,000 deaths due to the pandemic in Brazil. Brazil has been reeling under the pandemic especially since the beginning of 2021 recording around 300,000 deaths and 10 million cases.
