While Siridhamma Thero will be released under the court’s bail order, Wasantha Mudalige remains detained until instructions from the Attorney General’s department are issued on December 12. The two were detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act
Ranil Wickremesinghe is elected president of Sri Lanka
Ranil Wickremesinghe won the presidential election held by secret ballot on Tuesday, July 20, after Gotabaya Rajapaksa stepped down from his position earlier this month. Wickremesinghe is to remain president for the rest of Rajapaksa’s term which is to end in 2024
