Farmers joined the factory and public sector workers across the country on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the historic Delhi protests which had forced the extreme right wing government to withdraw anti-farmers laws

The Narendra Modi-led government withdrew tariffs on cotton imports. The decision is expected to affect millions of cotton growers in the country who have already been struggling for fair prices for decades now.

Farmers allege that successive governments in the country have failed to address concerns raised by majority of the country’s farmers and continue to serve the interests of big landlords and international capital

The ultra-right-wing government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been pushing for corporate entry into Indian agriculture, despite opposition from the majority of Indian farmers.
