Sovereignty council

The current chief justice and attorney general were appointed by the military junta and are perceived to have close ties with the regime of ousted president Omar al-Bashir

A 11-member sovereignty council, headed by the new president general Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, was also sworn in on August 21. Abdullah Hamdok, an economist, was also sworn in as prime minister on the same day

After the official signing of the constitutional agreement on Saturday, the military junta has chosen three names, including that of Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, who heads the militia which carried out the massacre of protesters
