Thousands of Peruvians took to the streets in Lima and other cities on June 19 to defend the electoral victory of socialist candidate Pedro Castillo from the Free Peru party. Right-wing Keiko Fujimori from Popular Force is still refusing to concede. Castillo won the elections with a margin of at least 44,000 votes.

As the electoral authorities are working to check all votes challenged by the opposition, Fujimori has been creating a climate of doubt in order to justify a coup.
