At least five Palestinians, including children, have been killed in an airstrike launched by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) on a residential area in the Nour Shams refugee camp, in the city of Tulkarm in the northern occupied West Bank on August 26.
According to the Palestinian News and Information Agency Wafa, the victims were Mohannad Qarawi (19 years old), Jibril Ghassan Jibril (20 years old), Adnan Jaber (15 years old), Mohammed Ali Yusif (49 years old), and Mohammed Ahmad Elayyan (16 years old). Jibril was a former prisoner in Israeli prisons, who was freed in a prisoners-for-captives swap deal between the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas and the Israeli occupation government in November, 2023. Palestinians in the West Bank have not only been targeted by the IOF, but also by Israeli settlers, who shot and killed 40-year-old Palestinian man Salem Khalawi and injured three others in the village of Wadi Rahhal, south of the city of Bethlehem.
In the Gaza strip, dozens of Palestinians have been killed and several others injured during the last 24 hours, in a chain of Israeli aerial attacks across Gaza. On Sunday, August 25, Hamas’s negotiations envoy left the Egyptian capital of Cairo after they met with mediators to receive an update on Gaza’s recent ceasefire talks, which ended without an agreement being reached between Hamas and Israel.
White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said on Monday that negotiations are still underway for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of Israeli captives, and that talks had made progress over the weekend.
On Tuesday, August 27, the Israeli military announced that it rescued Bedouin Israeli captive Qaid Farhan al-Qadi (52 years old) from a tunnel in a “complex operation” that its forces carried out in the southern Gaza strip. On day 326 of its genocidal aggression on the Palestinian people, which began in October 7, the Zionist state remains determined to complete its lethal attacks in West Asia under the pretext of defending itself and freeing its captives in Gaza.
