The decision was made by a ministerial committee of the Palestinian Authority on January 1 and was subsequently rejected by leading international press freedom organizations.
A report by the Committee to Protect Journalists said that 78 journalists and media workers were killed in Gaza in the first three months of Israel’s war. The report added that the circumstances leading to the killing of these media professionals were difficult to ascertain due to Israel’s refusal to cooperate

Palestinian journalists also staged a vigil outside the UN office to protest against the PA security forces for attacking and intimidating them while they were covering the protests, and demanded protection
Yazan Abu Salah, a journalist, was among the 20 people who were detained in raids conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Israeli forces also damaged several Palestinian homes, buildings and private property
