Iran said that at a meeting held to discuss this issue, Ukrainian officials were not able to provide any evidence to back the claim that its drones were being used in the Ukraine war

The fresh sanctions were imposed citing alleged human rights violations. Iran and at least one other signatory to the nuclear deal have stated that such moves raise serious questions about the Biden administration’s seriousness to revive the deal 

The withdrawal of the letters is being seen as a positive move towards the revival of the Iran nuclear deal. However, Iran wants the US to take firm action and lift all unilateral sanctions before it reverts back to full adherence to the provisions of the deal

The US is considering issuing an executive order within days which will threaten secondary sanctions against countries or firms buying or selling arms from and to Iran

Delegates from Iran, Russia, China, the UK, France and Germany said the deal was a key component in the global nuclear non-proliferation architecture. They also rejected US bids to trigger snapback sanctions

The admissibility of the notice submitted by Pompeo last week was questioned by 13 out of 15 members of the UNSC. Even US allies have pointed out that having left the deal in 2018, it cannot ask for sanctions
