Gautam Navlakha and Anand Teltumbde, both civil rights activists, surrendered to Indian authorities on April 14 in a case which has been widely and severely criticized as being unfounded. Despite lack of any concrete evidence, the two have been arrested at a time when overcrowded Indian prisons are already at an increased risk of becoming sites for the spread of COVID-19. They join nine other activists who had previously been arrested in the same case. Their arrests have been condemned globally.
