52,000 child care workers, also known as anganwadi workers, have been on strike in Haryana for over a month. They are demanding a pay raise that was promised to them by the Indian prime minister Narendra Modi 4 years ago. In Haryana, anganwadi workers and helpers are paid a small monthly honorarium of $160 and $80 respectively.
