The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) carried out an expanded military operation in the Tulkarm refugee camp in the northern occupied West Bank, on August 22. The operation lasted for around 14 hours starting on Wednesday night, during which the IOF killed three Palestinians in an air strike launched on a densely populated area.
The slain Palestinians are Imad Shreim (34 years old), Maawiya Al-Haj Ahmad (23 years old), and Wasim Al-Anbar (24 years old). At least 25 Palestinians were detained by Israeli forces across the West Bank, including two women and a child, between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
The IOF wreaked havoc in the streets of Tulkarm refugee camp along with the neighborhoods of Hamam, Al-Madaris, Qaqun, Al-Muqata’a, Al-Balawneh, Al-Murabba’a, and Al-Akasha, leaving massive destruction of infrastructure, as well as private and public properties. Armed clashes between the IOF and Palestinian resistance fighters took place for several hours during the Israeli army’s incursion of the camp as well.
The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah) announced on Thursday that its fighters targeted Israeli forces “with a number of explosive devices and a heavy barrage of bullets achieving direct and confirmed hits among the enemy soldiers,” referring to the clashes in Tulkarm refugee camp.
The Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) also announced on Thursday that its fighters took part in the fierce clashes with the IOF in Tulkarm Refugee Camp, and that it detonated improvised explosive devices against Israeli soldiers and the IOF’s vehicles during the invasion of the camp.
Meanwhile, dozens of Palestinians have been killed across the besieged Gaza strip during the last 24 hours, taking the death toll in Gaza up to 40,265 people killed, with 93,144 others sustaining injuries since October 7.
Israeli fighter jets and tanks continue to massacre Palestinians as the Israeli negotiating team is heading to Cairo. The talks also involve delegations from Egypt and the United States, and may include discussions on how to secure the border between Egypt and Gaza, and reopen the Rafah crossing.
Israel has been stirring up the embers of a regional war for almost one year, ignoring all international efforts to contain the situation, and even promises of retaliation by its rivals including the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah, the Ansar Allah movement in Yemen, and Iran.
The leader of Yemen’s Ansar Allah movement Sayyed Abdulmalik al-Houthi reiterated the movement’s threats to Israel in a statement on Thursday, August 22. “The response will be painful and impactful, and planning for it is one of the reasons for the delay,” said Abdulmalik al-Houthi.
