The Lebanese resistance group Hezbollah launched a series of strikes with a squadron of drones on Sunday, October 13, on a training camp affiliated with Israel’s Golani Brigade in Binyamina, south of Haifa. The drone strikes are part of “the Khaybar operations”, which Hezbollah began on October 1, announcing that they will encompass a series of attacks and strikes in response of the “targeting of civilians and the massacres committed by the enemy, and in answer to the call ‘Labbeik ya Nasrallah’ [Here I am, at your service O Nasrallah]”.
An explosive-laden drone detonated inside a dining hall within the training center of the Golani Brigade killing 4 Israeli soldiers and injuring 67 others, after the Israeli air defense systems failed to detect it, according to Israeli media sources. The Golani Brigade is an elite unit among five infantry brigades of Israel’s regular army.
Hezbollah issued a statement on Sunday claiming the responsibility for the attack stressing that it “will remain present and ready to defend our resilient and oppressed nation and will not hesitate to fulfill its duty in deterring the enemy.”
Ezzat Al-Rashq, a senior official in the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) commented on Hezbollah’s attack on Golani base on Monday, October 14, saying: “Those who were targeted by the drone were Nazi army soldiers, who bombed children and women in Gaza and Lebanon”.
President of the Yemeni Supreme Political Council Mahdi al-Mashat also hailed the attack stating: “We stand in reverence and admiration before the legendary heroism displayed by the fighters of the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon”.
The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the Golani base that was subjected to Hezbollah’s attack on Monday, October 14. During his visit, Netanyahu vowed to “continue to hit Hezbollah mercilessly in all parts of Lebanon – also in Beirut.” Netanyahu explained that strikes against Hezbollah will take place “according to operational considerations.”
Since the war across the Israeli-Lebanese borders erupted in early October 2023, Hezbollah has been mainly targeting Israeli military and intelligence sites. However, Israel has frequently targeted densely populated residential areas across Lebanon, leaving at least 2309 killed and 10782 others wounded, according to the last death toll reported by the Lebanese Ministry of Health on Monday.
As Israel continues massacring civilians across West Asia, the United States remains committed to provide it with significant financial and military support. On Sunday, October 14, the Pentagon stated that the US military will deploy a sophisticated Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system along with troops to Israel, to bolster its air defenses ahead of a potential new ballistic missile attack from Iran.
