Hundreds of people demonstrated in the flood-hit city of Derna against the failure of the authorities to prevent large-scale death and effectively carry out relief and rehabilitation work. Subsequently, the Osama Hammad-led government dismissed the Municipal Council and put all its members under investigation

The schedule for elections is highly uncertain with a parliamentary commission suggesting that the process be abandoned and a new constitution be framed instead. Electoral authorities had recommended that the elections be held on January 24

The vote is a blow to the UN-mediated peace talks between close to 75 political and tribal factions in the country, as well as the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections that are scheduled for December 24 

Though all warring factions have supported the elections of the interim government earlier this month there are certain uncertainties about its success including the continued presence of foreign troops in the country

The talks in Brega led to an agreement to create a joint force to protect the facilities. The political talks that were going in parallel did not lead to an agreement on a transitional government

Both the Government of National Accord and the House of Representatives which supports the Libyan National Army made announcements indicating an end to all hostilities, as well as the demilitarization of the cities of Sirte and Al-Jufrah
