Panspoudastiki KS, which is backed by the Communist Youth of Greece, won 19,632 votes, securing over 35.04% of the total votes polled for the student unions of 266 universities across Greece on May 10

The neighborhood is well-known for being Athens’ historical core of radical political and intellectual activism.

The center-right conservative New Democracy won 158 seats in the 300-member parliament. SYRIZA, which had gained power in 2015 riding on its anti-austerity stance, seems to have paid the price for going back on that position

Following a decline of nearly 13% in SYRIZA’s vote share, prime minister Alexis Tsipras called for fresh elections which will be held in the first week of July
