Hundreds of tea workers from Assam protested in Delhi, demanding implementation of minimum wages and for the betterment of working conditions

Sri Lanka is the second largest tea exporter in the world and the industry is the main source of foreign exchange earning, but workers employed in the sector remain poor and exploited.

The combination of poverty, disease, low wages, malnourishment, poor living and working conditions and a lack of basic health care and education services has led to the tea workers ending up in a highly abusive and exploitative situation.
