The US insisted on a provision in the UNIFIL mandate which allows it to conduct unannounced patrols, despite the Lebanese government calling it a violation of country’s sovereignty  

Israel has refused to abide by a UN resolution passed in 2006 asking it to vacate the Ghajar village on Lebanon’s borders with the Syrian Golan Height. Golan has been under Israeli occupation since 1973

The warning comes days after Israeli forces shot down three drones launched by Hezbollah towards the Karish gas field, 80 kilometers off the coast of Haifa, allegedly on a reconnaissance mission

Israel often violates Lebanese territorial sovereignty by launching attacks or using its air space to attack Syria despite the presence of UN peacekeeping force UNIFIL in the region since 1978

While these were the first officially acknowledged Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon since 2014, Israel regularly violates Lebanese airspace to carry out illegal strikes inside Syria

According to the reports Israel’s attacks in Syria were aided by information provided by US intelligence agencies. Israel has also been carrying out low altitude flights across the Lebanese air space in the last few days prompting Lebanon to file a complaint in the UNSC

Israel claimed that it shelled the southern part of Lebanon to prevent Hezbollah fighters from infiltrating but the resistance group denied these claims and called it a “one-sided attack”
